Linux operating system created by Linus Torvalds in 1991. And with the commencement of a personal project. It was developed as a free operating system for personal computer and it is source code is free for anyone to download and tweak of their own preferences. It is great for technical users and developers.

And also Linux based operating system is also very suitable for school computer lab because here we can see some advantages and disadvantages.

 

It is free because Windows, UNIX and Macintosh those are very expensive and we have to pay for purchase but for Linux we can download high quality software free of cost and also can install it in computes without paying. It is advantage for school. Because they can reduce their budget.  

And also performance based this operating system Linux provided high performance on workstations and on networks and also can handle many users at a time. And can do any woks very quickly and also mainly this o/s is continuously maintain performance and it is not slow down to memory issues, continuously it is working.

Also we can see high performance application, desktop application and embedded application. So it is very helpful to us because most of users we can see time to time they are updating their computers but Linux o/s is maintenance is very low or nothing. So it is easy to use.

Security part is the major part. Linux is very strong as it is very secure and it is less prominent to viruses. Otherwise when we using computer most of time in school student they don’t know all these things in computers, so then they can use other webs an all that so Linux is the most suitable operating system.

When we come to disadvantages of Linux has a limited selection of available software and also even though Linux has improved a lot in ease of use but windows is much easier.

And also Linux doesn’t support many hardware devices.

So, finally Linux is also having some disadvantages. But compare with other operating system I think Linux is relevant to school computer lab.

Advantages of new computer technology

·        People are using computers to perform different tasks quickly and easily. It also saves time and effort and reduces the overall cost to complete a particular task.

·        Many organizations are using computers for keeping the records of their customers. Banks are using computers for maintaining accounts and managing financial transactions. The banks are also providing the facility of online banking. The customers can check their account balance from using the internet. . They can also make financial transaction online. The transactions are handled easily and quickly with computerized systems.

·        People are using computers for paying their bills, watching a movie, listening to songs or playing computer games. Online services like Skype or social media websites are used for communication and information sharing purposes.

·        And also can be used as a great educational tool. Students can have access to all sort of information on the internet. Some great websites like Wikipedia. Can be used email facility.

  

                Disadvantages of new computer technology

Different tasks are performed automatically by using computers. It reduces the need of people and increases unemployment in society.

Many people use computers without positive purpose. They play games and chat for a long period of time. It causes wastage of time and energy. Young generation is now spending more time on the social media websites like Facebook , texting their friends all night through smart phones which is bad for both studies and their health. And it also has adverse effects on the social life.

The data stored on a computer can be accessed by unauthorized persons through networks. It has created serious problems for the data security.

People use the computer for negative activities. They hack the credit card numbers of the people and misuse them or they can steal important data from big organizations.

Past two decades computer have been used as a tool in the teaching learning process. Today school and so many institutes held or create courses specifically aimed at improve the computer literacy, as well as how to use new technologies and how to use computer with other curriculum. The Computer technology we can use very effectively specially with teaching learning process.

Earlier teaching with chock board, Instead of writing on the board, today teachers can present lessons by showing something on the computer and projector in the classroom, so the whole class can see this. And also use now interactive whiteboard. it is very easy to use.  So, no any enable to read and student can save as a record summary of class discussion or group works or can posted on the course web page.

And also teachers can use power point slides even video presentation  for teaching. There for they can create own presentation using power point and video and can uploading these course web page.
